Sewing 3: Patterns & Construction Class in Portland, Maine

Learn how to read, understand, and follow sewing patterns with confidence. This class will cover how to interpret pattern instructions, transfer markings, and determine construction order. We’ll also discuss garment fitting, notches, seam allowances, and fabric layout. Perfect for those ready to move from sewing practice to finished pieces.
Prerequisite: Factory 3's Sewing 2 class or equivalent — comfort with sewing machine and basic seam types.
Tools & supplies: All fabric will be provided. Sewing machines and all tools will be provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own. Your machine must be in good working condition.
About the instructor:
Eleanor Cox is a fashion designer and educator who trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology with a focus on women’s ready-to-wear and sustainability. She started her fashion journey in Portland at age 15, learning the value of small-batch, local production. After more than five years in New York menswear and later luxury women’s and menswear design—including Paris Fashion Week—Eleanor shifted into freelance costume design for films and music projects. She has since returned to Portland, where she runs her clothing line, Pritlove, and has a newfound love of teaching.
